2007 Porsche Cayman S with LS3 Engine Swap

This current home garage build-in-progress involves what most would consider to be a sacrilegious engine swap, but before casting any judgement on the project it should be noted that the owner of this 2007 Porsche Cayman S, Joshua Murray, bought the car with a blown engine. A new 6.2 liter GM LS3 crate engine is in the process of being fitted to the standard factory Porsche transmission with use of a Kennedy LS adapter mount and a lot of custom fabrication. Future plans include a Quaife sequential transmission for full throttle clutchless up shifts, as well as the installation of a dry sump oil system. With what started last November is left most currently updated just last week with a post test fitting the rear swaybar and undertray support, while the engine is already in the process of being made to fit. Video: Porsche Boxster Prototype Disguised as a Turbo Body 964 Targa

Porsche is back again with another video featuring one more gem plucked from their private warehouse facility. This time around it is a short story about the original Boxster prototype that is disguised as a Turbo Body 964 Targa with it’s rear window tinted so you can’t see it’s mid engine hiding behind the front seats. Somehow, we don’t think these rough test mules get displayed at Porsche’s museum just up the street from them, so it is a treat to get a chance of hearing their interesting stories in what would otherwise be a car tucked away in obscurity unable to tell it’s tale about it’s part in automotive history. 2002 Porsche 996 GT2 “RSR” by 911Design

This 2002 Porsche 996 GT2 “RSR” is the subject of an on-going, 4 year active project by 911Design in an effort to build one of the most extreme street/track 911 GT2’s, possibly of all time. The custom fabrication craftsmanship and attention to detail in the suspension, engine and brakes, and all of it’s associated hardware is just absolute art. No posing here. In it’s final iteration, the 3.8 Twin Turbo engine was dynoed at 843 rwhp at 1.1 bar while running 100 octane race fuel. The transmission of choice to handle all of that power was a sequential gearbox from Cartonics in Germany, with steel synchros and revised ratios. Since engine rebuilds are not cheap at an estimated $40k-$50k, the redline was set to “only” 8600 rpm. 1973 Brumos Porsche 911 S Current Restoration/Build Thread

There’s a really interesting 1973 Porsche 911 S home garage build thread currently unfolding on PellicanParts.com, which can be found linked on the following page. For those of you who want to be caught up to date with the Cliff Notes version first, all you got to do is continue reading here for the highlights before jumping in. The project starts with a long hood which was originally built by Florida based championship race winning Brumos Porsche as their own iteration of a factory lightweight RS or Clubsport package car. It includes an actual genuine “retired” IROC 3.0 RSR engine that was first installed back in ’74, the crown jewel of this project. Factory Special 1985 VW Porsche Bus: The B32

Here’s an interesting vehicle that we never knew existed before, the 1985 VW Porsche B32. Porsche reportedly built up to possibly 15 of these rare 3.2 liter flat 6 cylinder vans, although we are finding conflicting reports which state that it could have been just 10 or 11 total. The concept for the original example was made when the factory wanted a support vehicle for use at the Paris to Dakar Rally when they were racing their 959 in some Group B action. Whatever the reason, we are just happy that this creation exists and can’t believe we have never heard of it before. We have seen VW Bus’s in an assortment of engine swap flavors, normally utilizing Subaru’s boxer engine as a cost effective power upgrade, but we like to keep it in the family and this example is kosher clean.
