Thrashing the Cayman S With Porsche Driving Experience

What better way to get a feel for the 981 Cayman S than by thrashing it at Leipzig under the tutelage of a Porsche instructor? Travel and fashion blogger Steve Booker is one fortunate soul who, in attending the Porsche Track Experience, gets to learn the Cayman S with the assistance of a sodden skidpad, some of the world’s best corners, and a talented coach.

Sliding on a skidpad will rapidly sharpen one’s countersteering skills.

It’s not often that novices get to push their cars to the limit on a typical track day, but the Porsche Track Experience is designed to have customers familiar with the complete character of their Porsche; to make them comfortable at the edge of adhesion. As Booker puts it, rather poetically, « By the end of it—it sounds silly—but you’re, like, dancing with it. »

Learning lines, breakaway characteristics, braking distances, and weight transfer are all in a day’s work there. For those considering a performance-oriented Porsche, want to improve their own skills, or are just interested seeing in the potential of one of these cars demonstrated by a trained professional, the Porsche Track Experience is an exhilarating way to spend a weekend.

Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay: Volume 103

We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for nearly three years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. This week we’re taking a look at Porsche’s history of entry level sports cars. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed our curated look at the Porsche market. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

INTERESTED IN HAVING YOUR PORSCHE FEATURED HERE

Every other week, we feature 5 of our favorite Porsches on eBay. That post is sent out to our mailing list of more than 17,000 Porsche owners and fans and is seen by 10s of thousands of other readers who visit our site directly. If you’re selling a Porsche on eBay and would like to see it featured here, just shoot us an email with the details and we’ll be back in touch. Otherwise, feel free to check out all the other eBay listings we have on our Porsches for sale pages.

1. 2007 Porsche Cayman S For Sale

Porsche’s mid-engine two-seater coupe is getting incredible inexpensive to purchase, a boon for low-budget Porsche lovers like myself. This particular example, a 2007 Cayman S in gorgeous SpeedGelb is available for only just over twenty-thousand dollars. With vintage Porsche prices going crazy, the 987 Cayman is among the least expensive ways to get into the driver’s seat of an incredible Porsche. This example is hardly perfect, but it would happily provide smiles for as long as you keep it properly maintained. Press this yellow two-seater into daily-driver duty, and you’ll have everyone at your office wondering how you could possibly afford it, even though it costs far less than a new Honda Accord.

For more pricing, pictures, and information, check out the full listing on eBay.

2. Porsche 993 GT2-ish Race Car For Sale

If you’re looking to get into club motorsport, buying someone else’s already finished race car is usually the cheapest way to do it. This particular car appears to have started life as a G-series 911, but has been updated to wider and sexier 993 GT2 bodywork. Virtually every single piece of this race car has been replaced, upgraded, or improved in some way, and while the year of the chassis isn’t listed, it doesn’t really matter. With upgraded suspension, braking, wheels, and tires, this car may as well be a 993 RSR, and has the club racing pedigree to prove it. With the right credentials, you might even be able to enter this bad Porsche in Rennsport Reunion this fall, and wouldn’t that just be awesome?

For more pricing, pictures, and information, check out the full listing on eBay.

3. 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo For Sale

This Porsche 944 Turbo is a gorgeously well-kept 57,000 mile car hiding a monster of a secret under the hood. Apparently this car has been treated to some improvements from Lindsey Racing, as it now makes a massive 425 rear wheel horsepower. While I’m not particularly partial to the twist-style wheels, this 944 Turbo looks like an awesome way to bring a Porsche into your garage. It’s on the high side of the market at just under 30 grand, but the seller claims far more than that spent on the car, and we absolutely believe them.

For more pricing, pictures, and information, check out the full listing on eBay.

4. 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS For Sale

It’s an absolute shame that this GT2 RS has less than 4000 miles on the odometer. Having driven a 997 GT2 RS and a handful of 997 GT2s, they are among the most incredible and mind-boggling Porsches to drive, and they deserve to be driven as often as possible. This is one of the most aggressive and incredibly tail-happy 911s Porsche has ever built, and we would be happy to take this on a road trip to double its mileage immediately. The real question is, however, with the new 991 GT2 RS coming shortly, is this comparative slowpoke worth the half-million dollar price tag? You decide.

For more pricing, pictures, and information, check out the full listing on eBay.

5. SEMA-Show 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster Custom For Sale

This strangely beautiful Porsche 356 Speedster was built for the 2015 SEMA show, and has since won accolades in numerous car shows. The seller claims that over $100,000 was spent, and 3000 hours of labor were required to make this car look like it does right now. Allegedly, this car was sold a few years ago for $115,000, but is it still worth that? It’s a cool looking car, but it’s definitely not an as-original Speedster. The market for a nice outlaw like this one is probably a good bit smaller than a nicely restored example. Maybe if you find a few people to get into a bidding war. Either way, it’s cool enough to warrant inclusion in this week’s list.

For more pricing, pictures, and information, check out the full listing on eBay.
