Latest special edition Cayman piles on kit, and paints it all black

Porsche has expanded its range of all-black special editions by inducting the Cayman sports coupe into the Black Edition lineup.

We award no prizes to those of you who guess the car’s primary and sole colour scheme, but that shade is also found throughout the part-leather cabin trim.

Thankfully, a healthy equipment roster sheds light in the darkness, not least the standard bi-xenon headlights and the glint of aluminium should optional side window trims be specified.

The Black Edition gets the Cayman’s entry-level 2.7-litre, 275PS flat-six, capable of propelling the car to 62mph in 5.7sec and on to 165mph.

Outside, a set of 20-inch Carrera Classic alloy wheels manage to escape the light-absorbing hue with a silver finish.  Leading you further from the dark is a standard Porsche Communication Management system with satellite navigation, while rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, parking sensors and a Sport Design steering wheel further embellish the car’s specification.

Air conditioning, stop-start, and Porsche Stability Management remain standard, as with all Cayman models. Customers will also be invited to experience their cars in a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone.

The price of darkness is £45,989. That’s £6295 beyond a standard Cayman 2.7, but expected given the increase in equipment. Other colours are of course available…

Black Beauty: Porsche Introduces Cayman Black Edition

Porsche Cayman Black EditionBack in May, Porsche introduced—or reintroduced, more accurately—special “Black Edition” models of the 911 Carrera and the Boxster for 2015, which combine popular interior and exterior options with classic, black-on-black color schemes. Now, the Cayman joins Team Black with the announcement of the new Cayman Black Edition.

As with its Black Edition brethren, the Cayman Black Edition is based on the non-S model, which means that a 275-hp 2.7-liter flat-6 resides just aft of the passengers. In addition to the Cayman’s standard features, the Black Edition features 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels, bixenon dynamic headlamps, front and rear park assist, and a choice of either black or metallic black paint. Interior amenities include an upgraded audio system, navigation, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, a sport steering wheel, Black Edition logos on the doorsills, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and Porsche crests embossed in the headrests.

Want one? You have until January of 2016 to gather up the $60,195 it’s gonna cost to drive one of these black beauties off the showroom floor. With the base Cayman starting at $53,595, the Black Edition represents something of a bargain considering all the extras that are part of the deal.
