EXCLUSIVE: New Porsche 911 Turbo S spy shots put 992 rumours to bed

At the start of 2014 we spied a facelifted 911 undergoing cold weather testing in Sweden and now a pre-production version of the new Porsche 911 Turbo S has been spotted by Total 911’s spies during road testing in Germany.

Fitted with Ludwigsburg-registered plates (a city just 8.5km north of Porscheplatz in Zuffenhausen), the second generation Porsche 991 Turbo S is only discreetly different from the current forced induction 911 we tested in issue 115.

What’s more, the latest test mule’s raft of subtle changes over the current 911 Turbo gives the clearest indication yet that the next generation of 911 will be a facelifted version of the current 991 platform, not the rumoured Porsche 992.

Porsche 991.2 Turbo S 2

The most obvious difference to the current 911 Turbo is the Carrera-style front bumper, with the LED running lights wrapped around the corner of the air intakes.

The sculpting is subtly different on the central pillars however, with the myriad of camouflage tape around the running lights, headlights, and bumper edges suggesting that further tweaks have been hidden ahead of the car’s official reveal.

At the rear, the decklid features vertical, rather than horizontal, slates (akin to those seen on the ‘992’ pre-production Carrera) while the three exit vents on the rear bumper suggest that this is not a final version, especially when compared to the current 991 Turbo’s neatly finished vents.

Porsche 991.2 Turbo S 3

As with all the recent Porsche 911 test mules, the door handles have been revised, while the covered rear lights continue to suggest that 3D items in the style of the 918 Spyder will make an appearance on the 991 Gen2.

No technical details have been announced however, the PDK-only transmission will continue to stay while, as with all second generation 911s, expect a power boost from the Turbo and Turbo S’s 520hp and 560hp respective outputs.
